“Responsive environments”

March 3, 2008

I do not want to admit  that I am really a slow English reader and has bad short memory. I always forgot what I read at last sentence. It is hard to say whether I finished this book, some parts covered several times and some I do not remember whether read or forgot. Anyway, highlight some here.

Responsive artworks with technologies weaving their way into everything, artistic projects that explore the domains of mind and body adjusting to accommodate such phenomena are vitally relevant.

How green I could be?

March 1, 2008

Nearly exactly a year ago, when I started preparing my graduation project in CAFA, there is one issue pointed by Min Wang, my adviser— the social responsibility of being a designer.

Recently weather is weird in South of China, heavy snowstorm here. (Though Boston’s weather is more weird to me) environment as an old but always updated issue be put on the table again.

What I can do? How green I could be?

Eco-design

Grasp the definition from wiki: an approach to design of a product with special consideration for the environmental impacts of the product during its whole lifecycle. In a life cycle assessment the life cycle of a product is usually divided into procurement, manufacture, use and disposal.

Environmental aspects which ought to be analysed for every stage of the life cycle are:

Consumption of resources (energy, materials, water or land area)

         Miscellaneous (e.g. noise and vibration)

Emissions to air, water, and the ground as being relevant for the environment

Some thought about thesis

February 26, 2008
I currently interested in Physical interface, the relationship between people and ambience.
Some key words: Interaction, (ambient)Information, Invisible, regenerate energy, Sustainable,
Responsive environment
About that my personal understanding is people inside a certain environment interactive with something, the environment would be specific.

Wearable interface
Comparing above, the range of ambience be expanded, would be a certain area or a city or the whole world. The interesting point I thought is how the ambient information/data back to people and could it change personal behavior?

Something pop up from me related this area

  • Electronic textile
  • Technology based fashion design
  • Information based pattern
  • body movement based fashion design
